Liverpool University Hospitals Charity

The Sutcliffe Charity Spring Ball is back for 2025! On the 25th of April at the iconic Titanic Hotel, Liverpool.
At this year's ball, we are supporting Liverpool University Hospitals Charity in launching its Breast Cancer Appeal.
Did you know...
❤️ An average of 140 ultrasound scans per week are performed in the Aintree Breast Unit, which amounts to 7,280 per year
❤️ Approximately 130-140 patients are seen in the Rapid Clinics at Aintree each week
Why do they need our support?
At the moment, there is only one mammogram-guided biopsy list per week of up to four patients at Aintree, and this is not enough. Specialist appointments are limited as there is only one tomosynthesis machine on site. Because not all their machines can do tomosynthesis, they have a limited number of these appointments available. As a result, patients are seen at the beginning or end of clinics, which can be difficult for the patient, especially if they need to come back again for a biopsy appointment.
What will your donations go towards?
A new mammography machine with 3D tomosynthesis capability and compatibility with Contrast Enhanced Mammography equipment. This costs £80,500 - a huge investment for the Trust, but one that brings so many advantages to their patients.
❤️ Contrast enhanced mammograms can be reported more quickly and biopsies can be undertaken at one appointment which can mean less waiting time for scans and results. It is also less claustrophobic than an MRI scan which makes it less distressing for some patients.
