The Challenge

1 mile Open Water Swim

3 mile Open Water Kayak

45 mile Cycle

8 mile Run!!!

Estimated time to complete: 6-7 hours!! Saturday 8th June 2024…early start!

Team name: Better Late than Never!!

After spectating, supporting and volunteering at the Norfolk Superhero over the years, it is quite frankly humbling to see how much this incredible team of dynamic organisers work tirelessly, with enthusiasm and passion, fundraising extraordinary amounts for so many different local charities, and to make the Norfolk Superhero the one of a kind event that it is: a beautiful dance between extreme challenge, friendship and team work. The Superhero organisers ensure the smoothest version of this event, year after year; it’s in constant metamorphosis and the team behind it are inspiring, generous, motivating and complete stars…..So now the time has come for Matt and I to embrace/tackle this unique quadrathlon together! Obviously an expansion on marital bliss as one of us is a Superhero veteran and one of us is a Superhero virgin….training has been somewhat entertaining and started in all seriousness on April 1st!! There are definitely muscles developing all over that I had no idea even existed…there was a degree of blissful ignorance that accompanied the initial training…that bubble has been well and truly burst! There’s been huge progress, a fair few tough step backs, some incredible, supportive, kind and motivating friends helping with awesome tips and ideas to avoid too many surprises on the day, with no previous experience in any of these 4 disciplines, I’m still in awe of everyone who has previously completed this and trusting that somewhere deep within the Superhero inside is going to emerge as all the training comes together to make the seemingly impossible possible! We’d be so grateful for your sponsorship support, it all goes to the chosen Superhero Charities, please help us reach our target and we promise to get round the course, no matter what, hopefully with a little bit of sunshine and a good prevailing wind…both of which are well overdue!! The 2024 Norfolk Superhero is supporting Burnham Overy Harbour Trust, specifically raising funds for the vital work involved in restoring the creek. This will primarily involve the restoration of the groynes which are crucial in preventing the creek from silting up, as well as taking important measures to reduce erosion of the marshes.

WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT?

Burnham Overy Staithe’s salt marshes and creeks are a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to their unique biodiversity, range of ecosystems and large number of habitat specific plants.

The Superhero fundraising will fast-track this major restoration project which may otherwise take many years to complete. Without this work, the fragile ecosystems would suffer enormously. This work will secure this fragile and incredibly important landscape for the next generation.
