Story
Sue, gareth and our daughter Nina will be running Cardiff half Marathon to Raise money for Kids Cancer Charity.
This is a Charity near and dear to me and my families Heart. My son Brandon, was diagnosed with childhood leukaemia in October 2005, he was only 5 years old.
This crashed our world. Brandon spent 3 of his Christmas's in the hospital going through multiple rounds of chemo, he needed a porta-Catheter to go straight to his heart for his chemo to work. This left him with a heart murmur for years and to this day still needs to go to yearly checkups.
Brandon was always an active child, we actually found out about his cancer after one of his football matches. Brandon collapsed in pain playing football, clutching his leg. Turns out that’s where the cancer started. Because it started in his leg and how severe it was, Brandon was rendered to a wheel chair for a couple of years. Brandon struggled to walk, but that wouldn’t stop Brandon’s spirit. He went though multiple round of intense physio therapy and hydro therapy , and I can proudly say he ran his own half marathon 4 years ago.
Brandon couldn't have a childhood like most kids, he couldn't go to school due to infection risk, he spent birthdays, holidays, celebrations in hospitals. He missed out on childhood friends, and lost friends he made in the wards but thanks to Charities like Kids Cancer Charity he had the best childhood we could ask for and experiences of a lifetime.
We met the now King and Camillia, we went on holiday to Disney Land Florida, he was a mascot for Cardiff Blues and so much more. Charites like this one were the light at the end of the tunnel. I believe what helped him recover is charities like this.
Brandon is now a fully healthy 24 year old young man who is thriving! He now studies Aerospace engineering at Swansea Uni and I couldn't be prouder of him and cant thank these charities enough. As a family we want other kids and families to experience those rare smiles you rely on.
Anything you can donate, or your support would be wildly appreciated.
