Story
St David's Hospice Care is a local organisation at the heart of the Gwent community in Wales. They provide a large range of expert services to support patients, their families and friends, both in the hospice and the homes of people who are living through a life-limiting illness.
Hospice care has been an important part of our lives, both personally and professionally. We have experienced hospice care and support for family members, which meant a great deal at very difficult times for us. In particular, Sue's beloved Dad received excellent hospice care chosen by him during his last weeks.
As a GP and nurse we have worked for many years with colleagues of St David's Hospice Care. We have heard many heartwarming stories and had positive feedback from patients and families about the helpful experiences they have had with St David's Hospice Care staff during the hardest of times.
St David's Hospice Care only receives some funding from NHS Wales and relies heavily on income raised through fundraising. We are proud and delighted to help contribute to monies that will enable people to receive specialist care and support from St David's Hospice Care.
It has been a long standing ambition to take part in the London Marathon. We see this as an incredible opportunity to be able to combine it with raising funds for a local charity that is so close to our hearts.
Stuart has run one marathon before (Newport 2023), while it will be Sue's first attempt. We will be running it together - though at Sue's pace, so please do not expect a world record finish time :) We recently completed the Cardiff Half Marathon 2023 as a practice run and we are now in the midst of preparing for April 21st.
We will be so grateful for any contributions you can make, every penny helps as they say!
With love and thanks,
Stu and Sue xxxx
