Casa El Delfin launched a local Feed Me Now campaign in Trinidad, Cuba on Sunday 29th October 2023. This is the only not for profit vegan hostel and restaurant in Cuba. The UK based Go Dharmic humanitarian and philanthropy project was well received with locals. 15 people signed up to volunteer to collect and distribute food. 3 local gardeners volunteered to receive seeds and grow more vegetables to feed the hungry. The current all cause mortality rate from malnutrition is 35%. There is food, but people cannot afford to buy it with soaring inflation. The cruel extensions to the US political and economic blockade applied in 2018 have contributed significantly to the biggest humanitarian crisis in Cuban history.

Casa El Delfin brought 20lb of beans to hand out to the most vulnerable and needy in the neighbourhood.

We would like to raise £2,000 to be able to send seeds and vitamins to Cuba. Also money so that the volunteers can buy beans, rice, taro root, pumpkin, spinach and fruit to feed the hungry. We would like to initially be able to feed 100 people every month.

Cuban produces medicine, but as the country is in deep financial crisis, this is sold to Venezuela. Serious vitamin deficiency affects around 80% of the current population. Hundreds of thousands of Cubans have fled the crisis in the last 4 years. This has left a massive skills shortage. For many of the migrants fleeing they face a long and dangerous journey through Mexico to the US border. Ironically the US gives Cubans 2 years to stay if they can cross the border on dry land. The migrants travelling through Mexico face the risk of arrest and deportation or kidnap by drug cartels. These migrants have sold their homes, cars and all their belongings just to pay to be smuggled into Mexico.
