Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Susan and my friend Jo and I are taking part in the epic challenge of running in the London Marathon on 21st April 2024 to raise awareness of the brilliant support and services provided by the RNIB.

RNIB supports blind and partially sighted people and is driving the creation of a world where there are no barriers for people with sight loss.

For me this is a cause very close to my heart, as I lost my sight when I was 8 years old following illness with meningitis. Throughout my childhood and early teens, I experienced low confidence and self-esteem and encountered both social and environmental barriers. Support from the RNIB’s counselling service, employment service and specialist equipment helped to enhance my independence and enabled me to realise my full potential.

By donating to the RNIB, you’ll help other people with sight loss to have a better quality of life and ensure they get the support they need.

I hope to inspire others along my journey by raising awareness of the impact of sight loss and what can be achieved with the right support and determination. With your help today we can look forward to a world without barriers.

Note from Jo: - "I was really flattered (and also quite worried!) when Susan asked if I would run the London marathon with her as her Guide Runner.

This will be the first marathon (and maybe the last!!) for both of us - but we are really pleased to be given the opportunity to raise money for an incredible cause."

About the charity

Every day 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. With your help, we can be there when people need us most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you raise will help create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.
