Story

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rapidly-progressing fatal disease that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. On average it kills a third of people within 12 months and more than half of people within 2 years. There is currently no cure.

My father, Ian, was diagnosed with MND in 2022. Prior to his illness he was a hard-working, dedicated family man with an adventurous spirit.

I witnessed first-hand how devastating MND can be. Bit-by-bit MND took away my father's ability to walk, talk and swallow. By the end stages he was in wheel chair, having liquid food through a nose tube and relying on a ventilator to breathe. Every day had become a painful struggle for him and he needed round-the-clock care.

On 2nd April 2024 he lost his MND battle. He lived longer than we ever thought was possible; he always pushed himself and did that until the very end. His strength will always be my inspiration.

10 CHALLENGES FOR 10K

________________________________________________________________________

My father was born on the 10th of the 10th and as a tribute to him I'll be tackling 10 different challenges, to raise £10k for the MND Association.

The MND Association does lots of work to help those living with MND and their families. It campaigns for a world without MND, focusses on improving access to care and helps fund research for a cure. £10,000 is enough money to pay for two people with MND to take part in a clinical trial for a year.

The 10 challenges I undertake need to capture my dad's adventurous spirit and so I will be doing anything from skydiving to climbing mountains or sponsored silences. Each challenge will push my limits and help raise awareness of MND. I will complete the challenges over the course of 2024 - 2026 depending on how long each takes and how much training each one requires me to do.

Four of the challenges have been decided by me, but the other six have been (or will be) decided by my kind supporters by voting games or challenge sweepstakes.

Please note: - I pay for all challenge costs and expenses myself, so all your donations go straight to the MND Association.
