Story
Friends and family - today is Legal Aid of North Carolina's first Day of Giving.
You all know how much I love Legal Aid. It is because I have seen first-hand how critical this work is for low income people.
I started working in the Gastonia office in 2003 and represented a client who was stabbed in front of her children - another was disfigured by physical abuse. I represented a low-income elderly couple who were sold a fake insurance policy. The "insurance salesman" ran off with the last few hundreds dollars they had. I represented a tenant who had raw sewage running under his trailer (and that his little kids were stepping in) and when he complained, he was evicted, even though he was paying his rent every month. We appealed his case to the NC Court of Appeals and won.
I cannot think of a more impactful nonprofit to support in NC. Legal Aid of NC strives to make equal justice accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to afford an attorney.
I do this work to honor my mother and my children. Please join me in making a gift today!
