Story
We are cycling in memory of Andy Gosling
I am Dr Sudhindra Kulkarni, and I and 40 of my Lancashire Teaching Hospitals colleagues are coming together to take part in the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride on July 14th.
It’s a 60-mile route from Salford Quays to Blackpool’s South Promenade, and we’re taking on the challenge in memory of our beloved friend and colleague Dr Andy Gosling, who sadly left us earlier this year following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Andy received excellent care from our Trust colleagues here at the Rosemere Cancer Centre, so we’d like to honour his memory by undertaking this ride to raise funds for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, in thanks for the support he received throughout his illness.
Andy was a very highly respected consultant in critical care and anaesthesia until his retirement in 2019. He could ventilate the most difficult of lungs, insert lines in seconds and took on the most difficult tracheostomies. He led a wave of consultant and junior doctor recruitment and improved the working lives of many, while his ability to mentally calculate a rota and a job plan in seconds was legendary. He was a talented anaesthetist and specialised in ophthalmic and major gynaecological surgery, and his skills as an intensivist helped so many patients (and colleagues) that it's hard to adequately describe.
But more than his clinical skill and talent, Andy was a lovely human being. Kind-hearted, and always with a smile on his face, he had a great sense of humour and was always supportive to all members of the team.
Andy was a friend, and a friend to many. Since deciding to take on this ride in celebration of Andy’s life, it’s been a testament to his good nature that so many of our colleagues have decided to join me in tribute to him.
We would be grateful for any support you may be able to give our challenge. Any donations will help to fund cutting-edge equipment, clinical research, specialist training and life-changing patient welfare projects, all of which make a real difference for cancer patients cared for here at the Rosemere Cancer Centre and across the region.
Thank you.
