The British Exploring Society is not as it sounds - it's about giving young people from predominantly disadvantaged backgrounds a unique opportunity to transform their lives through the power of expedition.

There is a distinct theory of change of how a young person's horizon and aspirations grow through learning in the wilderness and making connections with fellow young people in their expedition.

Listening to young people talk about their experiences and seeing the energy and enthusiasm they have for the rest of their lives is hugely inspiring. BES is helping to lift people out of the confines of the circumstances in which they find themselves and provide them with a world of opportunity.
