Story
I’m fundraising for the “Supporting 1 in 4, in 2024” campaign, by running a half marathon in September. Unfortunately we experienced a miscarriage in March, and spent many appointments at the A23 ward. Although we received great care from the nurses and staff on the ward, we felt that the ward itself could benefit from renovation and the addition of new rooms specifically to support baby loss.
Shortly after experiencing the loss of our own baby, I read the article about Forever Stars starting the 1 in 4 campaign, and the fact A23 supports 10 families a day who experience the same awful event. Reading this statistic shocked me, empathising for the nurses and staff who have to repeatedly deliver this heartbreaking news on a daily basis, but also for the many families that experienced the same as we did. I felt compelled to support this cause, and felt that challenging myself to run a half marathon would raise awareness and valuable funds for this important campaign.
For those that have experienced or unfortunately will suffer a baby loss in the future, I know nothing can take away the pain of hearing the heartbreaking news. However, I hope raising money to refurbish A23 will provide a small comfort and a supportive environment for those 10 families a day.
Stuart.
