Story
Cornwall is home to some of the last remaining areas of temperate rainforest in the UK - and, with your support, Cornwall Wildlife Trust have a chance to restore this magical and important habitat at West Muchlarnick, near Looe. (You can learn about this project in more detail here.)
Temperate rainforests are a globally rare habitat. Covering just 1% of the world's surface, they are even rarer than tropical rainforests! In Britain they may have once have covered up to one fifth of the country. Now only small patches remain. They were destroyed for timber logging, agriculture, transport and development, and continue to be under threat from air pollution, overgrazing and invasive species.
For the past 20 years I have been lucky enough to work in these amazing places helping to protect and restore them. But this year I am going the extra mile, 26.3 miles to be precise and running my first marathon at The Eden Project on 20 October 2024 in aid of Cornwall Wildlife Trusts Temperate Rainforest Appeal.
Here are just some of the things your money could go towards:
£10 could pay for the supply and planting of 5 native trees
£15 could pay for 10 tree guards
£30 could pay for 2 meters of deer fencing to protect newly created woodland
