Story
Leeds Marathon 11th May 2025
Following a heart attack and triple bypass surgery nearly 6 years ago, part of my rehab was to build up walking distance.
I pushed myself as I had 2 1/2 months to get fit enough to take up a gillie position on the North Tyne. By the time I went there I was walking up to 16 miles.
On my return home, I started adding a bit of running to my walks.
Roll on 4 years, watching the incredible mates, Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield going through my home town of Otley in The Leeds Marathon, inspired me to enter last year's marathon.
This was my first race for nearly 40 years, and first marathon. As I'm not much of a runner, I combined running ( about 16 miles),and walking to ensure I got round. My target was under 6 hours, and finished in 5.37.
Thanks to the amazing support of friends, together we raised nearly £1800 towards the building of The Rob Burrow Centre for MND in Leeds. Absolutely incredible ! Thanks again to everyone.
Sadly, Rob Burrow passed away last June, the day before building started on the centre. It is hoped the centre, which will see all MND services housed under one roof for the first time, will open to patients and their families this summer.
I have entered this years marathon, with 3 targets in mind.
1) Raise as much as I can to support The Rob Burrow Centre for MND.
2) Finish
3) Under 5 hours, tho this will be a big push 🥵.
Any donations to my fundraiser, large or small will be hugely appreciated.
Many thanks
Stuart
