All the 'best' ideas come from having a few pints and this one was no different! What started as a conversation about past events/challenges we'd been involved in quickly turned into a conversation about what we should do next. Gareth sowed the seed of this 52.5mile triathlon-style event in our minds and it didn't take long for that seed to grow. Within a couple of weeks the event was booked and 'Vinyl Velocity' was born! Since all 4 of us are from the same industry, we felt the name had to have some kind of nod to our trade.
Our team of 4: Kieran McCabe (RGVA Vehicle Graphics), Gareth Livingstone (Stuart Signs), Stuart Bennett (3M) and Gavin Swallow (Graphic Innovation Group).
Two of us didn't even own push bikes, let alone ridden one for donkeys years so the first point of call was buying a bike. That's done so it's training rides from here on out.
The event starts at sunrise with a 20 mile bike ride across the hilly lake district roads, then we hike 10.5 miles up mount Skiddaw (930m) and return down to a team kayak to paddle 2 miles across Derwentwater, then we finish with another 20 miles on the bikes, beating the sunset as we cross the finish line.
Please help us raise money for this amazing cause and keep us motivated on those hilly training days!
