Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2023 I created a large mixed media print, 'The Old Man of Calke' [100cm x 71cm on Fabriano Rosapina], which was a result of my working from an amazing image created by Andy Doughty, who is a prolific and superb photographer of our most special, native & ancient trees.
The Old Man of Calke is a truly staggering ancient Oak tree situated in the Calke Abbey estate in South Derbyshire, and at c.1000 thousand years is one of the oldest Oak trees in the UK.
From this we created several high-quality A3 inkjet prints on 230GSM Archival Marrutt Matt paper from the original print: & then a 2nd, open edition on Somerset Satin.
we then raised £1000 through this + a Prize Draw.
I'm delighted that this print + event has been given a center-spread in the Viewpoint section of the brand new Spring issue of Broadleaf, the magazine of the Trust.
As the Trust has promoted this fundraiser still further, we've decided to keep this Page open UNTIL 29TH MARCH to raise some more money towards giving more legal protection for our veteran trees, AFTER WHICH POINT THIS PAGE WILL CLOSE.
So....Anyone donating £50 [+ £10 P&P ] here to the Woodland Trust will receive one of these prints, signed and numbered by me.
If you want to donate anonymously here PLEASE MESSAGE ME, OR ADD YOUR EMAIL WHEN YOU DONATE SO I CAN CONTACT YOU TO SEND YOU THE PRINT!!!
All of the proceeds will be donated towards the Woodland Trust's Living Legends campaign to give more protection to our veteran trees:
"Most of our oldest trees are not legally protected. We're urging governments across the UK to change that.
They're living legends. Pieces of history. Your heritage. They've witnessed centuries of change and been part of our landscape for generations. They're also vital havens for wildlife and important carbon stores, bringing health and wellbeing benefits for people and nature alike. But our oldest and most valuable trees are also vulnerable.
Right now, most ancient trees have no real legal protection in the UK. Many face a range of threats. In the last 150 years, 50% of large trees have been lost from parts of Eastern England. Three-quarters of ancient trees are found outside of legally protected wildlife sites.
Local communities across the UK are having to take drastic measures to save important trees in their communities. Not every campaign succeeds.
These national treasures should be here to stay. They deserve the same sort of protection enjoyed by old buildings, beloved national recipes and other endangered wildlife – some of which can't survive without ancient trees. And the people who care for them should be supported to do so."
