Story

I can’t believe I am even writing this but in December 2024 my Mum was diagnosed with MND after months of poor health. Nobody should have to go through such a debilitating condition, nor should anyone have to witness a loved one deteriorate in this way. MND is still so poorly understood and by undertaking this challenge I'm looking to raise awareness as well as funds that will help ensure that we take steps to not just support people, like my Mum, living with this terrible disease.

I started running in 2023 following the diagnosis of my Dad’s brain tumour so I knew to raise money this time I would need to do something that seriously pushes me out of my comfort zone to hopefully raise as much money as possible for this charity. Inspired by Kevin Sinfield I wanted to do a challenge that feels personal to my Mum but something that seems so scary yet also can involve as many of mine and my Mum's loved ones as possible. Therefore as my Mum is 64 years old I will be covering 640km in January as a mixture of runs and long walks (this works out as a half marathon a day for a month!!) . I am not sure how my body is going to handle this challenge (and I know for certain I won't have any toenails left by the end), but if my Mum can handle life living with MND, then I can handle a physically gruelling challenge over the space of a month!

I will be sharing my weekend schedule as want as many people to get involved, but if you also want to help on some dark weekday running (even if you want to walk a section with me) that would be hugely appreciated – please let me know.

Please make this challenge worthwhile and help support a charity which means so much to families like ours, any donations no matter how small are so worthwhile.

Mum – this one is for you xx
