Story

Steven Webb's Cornwall 500: A Journey of Gratitude and Inspiration

Thirty-three years ago, my life changed forever.

Just six weeks after participating in a charity snooker marathon that raised £1,200 for the newly established air ambulance, I found myself fighting for my life in the back of that very same aircraft. On that fateful day, I broke my neck and became severely paralysed.

Today, I rely on others for every aspect of my life. But that hasn't stopped me from living life to the fullest. Since that day, I've partied, loved, lost, and settled down to raise my daughter. I'm now a proud grandad. I've served as a City Councillor since 2017 and had the honor of being the Mayor of Truro from 2021 to 2023.

I'm also the host of the "Stillness in the Storms" podcast, where I help people navigate through life's most challenging times. Additionally, I write and guide meditations on the "Inner Peace Meditations" podcast, which reaches over 2 million listeners.

The Cornwall 500: My Way of Giving Back

Exactly 33 years to the day since my accident, I will embark on an incredible 500-mile journey to raise money for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust – the very organization that saved my life all those years ago.

Why 500 miles in my electric wheelchair? I live in Cornwall, one of the most beautiful places in the world, with a coastline that many have walked in various ways. While I can't walk the coastline, I can do the next best thing: use the nearest navigable roads to the coastline, visiting towns and villages all over Cornwall. This journey will take nearly the whole of September.

But there's more to this adventure. Along the way, I'll be laying 50 plaques that tell the story of Cornwall – from its rich history and culture to personal experiences and storytelling, which is my personal favorite.

Creating a Legacy

This journey isn't just about me. It's about creating a lasting impact. The Cornwall 500 is now a Community Interest Company (CIC) that we'll use as a legacy event. People can do the Cornwall 500 in their own way and in their own time, much like a modern version of collecting stickers in a book.
