Story
Hi I'm Steve, I live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire with my wife and young son. I took up running just over 15 years ago to lose weight for my wedding and haven't looked back since.
I ran my first marathon in 2008 in Nottingham and my first Windermere Marathon in 2009. That was the first time I had ever heard of the 10in10 and I couldn't believe that it was physically possible. I have now completed the Brathay Windermere Marathon a further 11 times since that first one with a fastest time of 3:24 and love everything about the event. From the marching drummers at the start, to ice cream mountain, the climb up the driveway to the finish and especially the finish on the lawn running in with my son.
As well as my annual pilgrimage to Brathay I have also run a total of 88 marathons or ultras all over the world. My aim for around the last 10 years has been to run a 100 marathons and I can’t think of a better way of achieving my goal than by completing the Brathay 10in10. I have completed back to back marathons on three separate occasions before but the idea of running 10 in a row really does fill me with dread.
The main two things that have motivated my running over the years have been my times and also fundraising. In 2013 I undertook a marathon challenge for the British Heart Foundation and ran a marathon every calendar month for a year. I finished that challenge in Berlin by running a personal best which was an amazing feeling.
Over the years my knowledge of the work Brathay undertakes has grown and it really is a wonderful charity. The funds that I will raise will help support the meaningful work that the Brathay Trust does for young people who are going through challenges in their lives. Helping them do their amazing work will have a positive impact on many lives.
