Story
Over the course of January to June 2024, I will be cycling a distance of 5,000 miles which is the distance from Cleethorpes to Helmand (Afghanistan). I will be doing this over a 6 month period which is the length of an Operational Tour in Afghanistan. Whilst I can’t make the physical journey, I will doing this at home with the support of my family and friends by doing the mileage on my indoor road bike trainer. Even though it’s inside and away from the elements, it is more of a mental challenge and the equivalent of cycling 27.4 miles, every day, for 6 months, whilst working a full time job. I will feel every mile!
As a veteran myself, I have learned the importance to “keep on going” when times are tough and the exhaustion creeps in. This challenge will test that more than anything I have come across so far. Combat Stress is the UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health.
For over a century, they've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, they provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict. I’m taking on vital steps towards ensuring veterans can get the support they need. Thank you so much for your support.
