MY CHALLENGE: INTO THE WILD ICELAND:

On 17th July this year, I will be attempting to complete the 300km Fjallabak (pronounced “fee-at-lah-bahk”) trail in just 72hours through one of Iceland's most rugged national parks, solo and unsupported.

It promises to the the toughest off road adventure of my life and I'll be tackling deserts, ravines, volcanoes and quicksand(!), not to mention 40+ river crossings with my 30kg+ bike laden with all of the kit I need to keep me going for the days and nights in the saddle and under the stars.

As a father of 3 young children, I was shocked to learn that cancer is the leading cause of childhood death in the UK. I know what it's like to have a child in hospital for days on end; the stress and fatigue it brings to a family. But the thought of a child and their parents having to endure a battle with cancer is truly heart-wrenching.

That's why I'm riding my 'Into The Wild in Iceland' challenge, taking on the formidable Fjallabak trail over 3 days. Even in July, the elements can be unforgiving; winds of 100kph and horizontal rain are possible, so I'll need to go prepared for anything.

I'll be taking with me my fuel, food and a cooking system, water and a filtration device, solar panels for charging essential devices including gps and a satellite communication tracker (as zero phone signal anticipated throughout), my sleeping bag, tent, emergency shelter, plus first aid kit, bike repair equipment, clothing, and so on.

With your support, I'll be raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, the UK's flagship cancer hospital for Children.

My goal is to raise £2,000 for this incredible cause, supporting the hospital's vital work in children's cancer treatment and research. Together, let's make a difference to the lives of these brave young people and their families. Thank you!
