When my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a couple of years back, he discovered Our Dementia Choir, which is an excellent charity promoting singing to ease the symptoms of dementia. Set up by Vicky McClure, it has changed our lives over the past couple of years.

The choir do so many excellent events with truly inspirational people. My dad has been able to experience performing at huge festivals, was on a BBC documentary and my parents now have a large support network, which is crucial to their wellbeing.

I thought it was only fitting to give something back, to enable them to continue to do the excellent work they do. I am taking part in a number of events over the course of this year to help raise money for this amazing charity. Having already run the York Half Marathon in January, the 10 mile Derwent Reservoir Run, this weekend I am participating in the Kielder Dark Skies Marathon. Later on in the year I am taking part in The Wall, a 100km run along Hadrian’s Wall, as well as the Scottish Coast To Coast, a 100km run, bike and kayak.
