Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!
So here's my story!
On the 23 March 2020 the country was told that we were in lockdown and only essential travel was allowed with no visiting family. Unfortunately on that day I received another message, they had found a growth on my Prostate and further investigations were needed. Because of Covid rules all consultation was done by phone and any of the hospital visits were on my own!
After lots of talking and discussions with my wife I decided not to share my story with the family until we had a full prognosis. On June 10th 2020 I received the news that confirmed that treatment would start immediately and a course of radiotherapy would also be needed.
The following day our 2nd grandson was born! This gave me something positive to focus on and look forward to.
This rollercoaster of emotions was so hard to accept but we still kept my story to my wife and I.
The following year I had to have an operation because of my previous illness , UC, thats another story, before radiotherapy could start. So some 18 months after diagnosis I could not hide my story anymore.
To date I have only told my family and a few of my closest friends but I felt that this challenge was a good time to tell my story and help raise money for this worthy cause. So I guess now everyone who knows me will perhaps understand why sometimes I just am not myself because I am fighting this terrible disease mentally and physically.
I realise now that keeping this to myself only made the pain worse and sharing my story now hopefully will encourage people to talk more, it certainly feels better writing it.
Living with PC is hard but the support and the medications I receive has allowed me to lead a normal life, the money raised for this great charity continues to help people like me and so my 100 mile challenge begins!
Prostate Cancer Research are dedicated to creating brand new prostate cancer treatments. Prostate cancer is now the most diagnosed cancer in the UK and 11,500 men die from the disease every year. People affected by prostate cancer need breakthrough treatments, and research is the only way to turn this hope into reality.
Their vision is clear; a world where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer. I’m part of #TeamPCR because I share this vision. Will you help me support their research?
