Story
I graduated from Bristol University at a time when we mostly wrote our essays by hand, a half pint of cider from the Coronation Tap was 80p & mental health just wasn't talked about.
It’s hard to imagine such a time...which is why I am thrilled to be able to raise awareness & support for the University’s life-changing HEALTHY MINDS programme. (If that means that I get to run the London Marathon in the process, then this really is the stuff of dreams!)
HEALTHY MINDS has changed the lives of over 500 students in the last five years, helping to set them on the road to both mental & physical wellness. Think about how many more students could benefit in the future with our support!
Thank you in advance to everyone who will support me in my training & fundraising, which includes my two teenage sons who were last heard muttering ‘Why does Mum always do these extreme things?!’
HEALTHY MINDS: Suffering with mental ill health disrupts students' academic studies and personal lives, often causing them to miss out on the transformative and enriching experiences offered by higher education.
The UofB Division of Sport, Exercise and Health (SEH) launched HEALTHY MINDS in 2016. The programme helps students affected by mental ill-health to get more active through user-led, personalised support. It includes sessions with an activity mentor, a tailored activity plan & support for future health maintenance, as well as access to a range of classes, clubs & sports opportunities.
Every pound raised will help to improve the quality and quantity of support offered, helping even more students.
