Story
Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) is an NGO that I've been volunteering with for over a year now. Based in Northern France and London, RCK cooks and provides hot, nutritious food for refugees living in camps in Calais and Dunkirk, as well as asylum seekers here in London. The organisation has been running since 2015 when "The Jungle" was present in Calais, set up by four friends looking to make a difference. It relies and runs purely from donations and volunteers.
RCK has never been lower in funds and we are entering a winter of increasing service numbers, rising food costs and high tension and conflict in Calais. Currently in Calais we are serving between 1,500 and 2,000 meals a day, and are calling on all support to continue to be able to provide this service.
I'm setting the goal to raise £2,000 this winter, these funds will be used to pay for:
• Warm Meals: Currently £5 = 2 large meals of rice or potatoes, a hearty main, fresh salad, as many health enhancing and delicious condiments we can carry.
• Overheads: Gas, electricity, water, rent to run our large kitchens and fuel to keep the vans on the road.
• Equipment: Acquire and maintain our vital kitchen equipment, including fridges, ovens, burners and vehicles.
• Support for volunteers: Accommodation, visa applications and expenses
Any amount will be so greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much,
Steph
