Story
Thousands of people take part in Ride+Stride every year to raise funds to support their local churches and county historic churches trusts. Participants seek sponsorship through visiting Gloucester churches by walking, cycling, on horse back, on public transport or by car. Or some arrange coffee mornings or or lunches.
This year, members of St Edward's, Stow-on-the-Wold, will again be taking part. Robert Barnett and Peter Dixon will visit ten ancient Cotswold churches in a 20-mile walk, an endeavour that Peter has been undertaking for several years. The site of St Edward's has been a place of worship for over 1,000 years and parts of the building date from the 12th century. The money raised goes to Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust, but GHCT returns half of the funds to St Edward's.
Although the 'official' Ride & Stride day is Saturday 14th September, that is the final day of the five-day Music at Stow Festival, so it will be a busy week. For that reason, Robert and Peter will do their walk on Monday 9th September, before the Festival gets going.
