Story

The Need

Kayts Base Hospital (on Kayts Island, off the coast of Jaffna) and the High Dependency Paediatric Unit of the Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa both have something in common – they have paediatric facilities that are not fit for purpose and in very real need of upgrading.

The Solution

We are fundraising to significantly enhance the paediatric facilities at these hospitals, and perhaps other hospitals, and looking to raise more than £100,000.

Your funds will greatly improve the quality of care and broaden access for the communities these hospitals serve.

Team Solihull is made up of members and associates of the extended Solihull School community. Some of us are taking on the full marathon 42 km (26 mile) ‘figure of 8’ London Winter Walk, on January 27 2024, whilst others are taking on a 1005 mile Virtual Mission around Sri Lanka. We would be very grateful if you would sponsor us, secure in our knowledge that your support will make a huge difference to many of Sri Lanka’s poorest children, for decades to come.

The facilities will be greatly improved in memory of Sonya Lynch (nee Penney), a paediatric nurse, who died of cancer at the age of 48 in August 2023. With the very generous support of family, friends, their schools, sports clubs and the wider community in Cork, Ireland, her three children have already raised over €30,000 (£26,000) of the £100,000+ needed.

The HUGE Incentive

Every pound, euro or dollar donated up to £25,000 ($30,000), will be very generously matched by IMHO USA. We would be very grateful for your support in helping us to reach our target by selecting your currency of choice.

*Please note that US taxpayer donations are tax deductible when made here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/srilanka-childrensward

Virtual Mission

If you are sponsoring a participant in the 1005-mile Virtual Mission of Sri Lanka, please use this page to donate.

Our Charity Partnerships

Assist RR UK and IMHO USA will again work in partnership, along with Team Solihull, all those taking in the Virtual Mission & Sonya’s family to raise funds and implement the projects through to completion.

With your support, we can again make a very big difference.

With very best wishes,

About the charity

Assist Resettlement & Renaissance

Verified by JustGiving

RCN 1151025
Assist Resettlement & Renaissance (Assist RR) has been formed to relieve poverty of innocent victims of war in Sri Lanka by improving their livelihood. They were originally displaced during the final phase of the civil war and spent a number of years in various refugee camps / welfare centers. They have been facing extreme hardship after they were resettled in their villages. People were being housed in temporary shelters without water and toilet facilities and are living on rare hand-outs without any work or job opportunities.
