1k Club Lifting Challenge, 22 December 2023
In memory of Derek Pritchard
We provide suicide prevention resources to help prevent suicide in the UK

Story

Ocean Fit owner, Lucy Brydon, and long-time member Spencer Pritchard have challenged the gym-goers to join the unofficial, worldwide 1000lb club – a feat achieved by lifting the weight over three disciplines; back squat, bench press and deadlift in one session – on the weekend before Christmas.

The challenge is used by weightlifting fanatics all over the world as a milestone to aim for and the unofficial club even boasts actor Hugh Jackman as a member.

The charity event in aid of CALM will also feature 500lb and 750lb categories to cover a range of lifting abilities and body types.

Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this by offering life saving services, provoking conversation and bringing people together to reject living miserably.

From advice on our site, through to free, confidential chats with our helpline staff, online or on the phone, we’re here for whoever needs us, every day. No matter what.

£8 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.
