Story

Hi,

We're Spencer Clarke Group, a recruitment agency based in Preston and this year, we’re taking on Tough Mudder to raise money for the brain injury association, Headway.

Our 30+ team will tackle 12 world-famous obstacles over an extremely muddy 5km course at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire. In 2022, our team tackled the Manchester Tough Mudder course raising an incredible £2,984 for Lancashire MIND.

This time, we’re hoping to raise £3,000 for Headway which aims to improve life after brain injury by providing vital support and information services. This includes a freephone helpline and maintaining their website which contains information and factsheets on all aspects of brain injury.

To decide which charity to fundraise for, Spencer Clarke Group employees were asked to nominate charities close to their hearts. From the nine incredible and extremely worthy charities put forward, everyone in the Spencer Clarke Group team was then asked to vote for which charity mattered most to them.

Senior Consultant, Jenna McFarlane, who nominated Headway said, “Headway has had a significant impact on mine and my family's lives after my dad was diagnosed with Encephalitis 10 years ago. This is a vicious virus which attacked his brain and resulted in him having no short term memory.”

Jenna continued, “This made his life very difficult and resulted in him being unable to work. Headway’s support group helped him gain back his confidence by speaking with like minded people. He also met people even worse off than himself who he was then able to help. It got him back out the house doing regular activities which has made him more aware and confident to speak about his brain injury.”

Jenna added, “My mum is now the chairperson of the Blackburn with Darwen branch and supports the service users with regular outings and activities from the donations raised. Many are in wheelchairs and unable to do regular outings so the support from the charity helps them to still live an amazing life!”

The donations raised will support users in the Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley area. Thank you for your donations and wish us luck!
