Story
Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease is a group of inherited disorders that cause nerve damage, mostly in the arms and legs (peripheral nerves). Simply put, it impacts the way myself and many others who are living with CMT are forced to live our lives.
I was diagnosed with CMT1X in 2014 and have since experienced rapid atrophy in my calves, ankles and feet, as well as my hands. However, earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to meet a foot surgeon in Los Angeles at Cedars Sinai named Dr. Glen Pfeffer who specializes in the surgery of feet and ankles of patients with CMT.
Dr. Pfeffer is a world-renowned foot surgeon who has helped countless patients through surgical interventions, enabling them to walk more comfortably and perform daily tasks with greater ease, enhancing overall quality of life. However, many folks who opt to get the surgery are forced to travel from all parts of the country which can be very expensive when considering airfare, lodging and other miscellaneous expenses, on top of the cost of the surgery itself. And unfortunately, there are many who would greatly benefit from the surgery but simply cannot afford the costs.
My goal with this fundraiser is to provide those dealing with CMT equal opportunity to greatly improve their lives through surgery with someone like Dr. Pfeffer. Together, we can support those who need financial assistance so that they do not need to struggle through life because of the pain that CMT causes.
My surgeries are scheduled for September and December of 2024. If I have the opportunity to improve my quality of life, then so should others. Thank you all in advance for your contributions and generosity.
