We are Sophie and Sarah, and we will be running this years Birmingham half marathon in support of our sister in law Elizabeth.

We have had the privilege of knowing and loving Elizabeth for over 20 years, and her and our brother Mike now have three wonderful boys (our amazing nephews) Freddie, George and Hughie.

“Cancer affects 1 in 2 of us”- we have been so lucky to beat this statistic for so long. Bar one false alarm, we have grown up sheltered from the effects of this awful disease.

That is until 2020, when Elizabeth was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following some gruelling chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and a hell of a lot of fighting from Elizabeth, consultants believed that they had managed to remove all of the cancer.

Devastatingly in 2023, Elizabeth fell ill again and got the news that the cancer had now spread to her bones.

I think we can both safely say that neither of us could be described as athletes, but there is no greater motivation than Elizabeth’s strength and courage during her fight against cancer. A fight in a now losing battle.

So please help us raise money for Breast Cancer Now. We are heartbroken that the research they conduct now will be too late for Elizabeth, but the scary reality is that cancer really does affect so many of us, and with both of us having young families we hope that future research can help eradicate this horrendous disease for good.
