Story
We are fundraising for the Gaza Sunbirds, a para cycling team based in Gaza, Palestine. The team of 20 athletes where founded in 2018 when Alaa al-Dali, an Olympic hopeful cyclist, was shot in the leg by an Israeli sniper.
The team are currently providing emergency food parcels and aid to families sheltering around the Gaza Strip. Risking their lives daily to get these parcels to people in need, these men have lost limbs and are still cycling their country to support their communities, having put their Paralympic dream on hold in order to use their passion of cycling to do what they can.
On the ground they have rerouted all their resources to support the people in their communities.
So far we have distributed (Updated: 6th Nov):
• 21 Tons of food and essentials have been distributed to approximately 39'370 people
• Provided 50 essential baby packages (Clothes, diapers, formula etc), capable of lasting 10 days.
• 100 blankets and 100 duvets purchased and distributed.
• 900 Hot meals distributed.
The main idea now is to help people survive until larger aid organisations step in. This will only happen through community action and mutual aid. This is the process they want to fund one week at a time.
This is an emergency aid fund, we don't know how long it will keep going for, but the UK based organisation has promised that if their ability to provide support on the ground were to end then they will ensure that all funds are used in the way donors intended or for future Gaza Sunbirds cycling projects.
Any donations will be massively appreciated!
