Story

I’m thrilled to be running the TCS London Marathon on Sunday, 27th April 2025, in support of Challengers! I’ve been lucky enough to work at Challengers for the past 7 years, starting when I was 17, and I am still lucky enough to work a few weekends now. I have truly loved every second!

For those unfamiliar, Challengers is an incredible charity that creates an inclusive, safe, and fun environment for disabled children and young people to play. They operate a non-exclusion policy, meaning no child is turned away, no matter how complex their needs. In a world where disabled children face barriers, Challengers breaks them down to ensure every child has the right to play and be themselves.

Working at Challengers has truly inspired me, and I’ve had the joy of learning from the incredible young people there. My experiences even inspired my MA dissertation, focusing on the lives of young people with disabilities and their families. Sadly, due to funding cuts, I’ve seen many schemes close, which affects not just the children but their families too. Challengers provides crucial respite for families, and with the cost of play for one child at around £180 per day, they ask parents for only a small contribution.

I could talk endlessly about the great work Challengers does and the joy I’ve experienced working with them. Running the London Marathon for such a cause is a privilege, combining my passion for running with supporting this wonderful charity. I’ve been preparing for this challenge and can’t wait to share my training journey, alongside some exciting events.

My fundraising goal is £1,999 (excluding gift aid), and any donations would be greatly appreciated, helping to ensure disabled children can play and be themselves!

About the charity

All children need to play, but for disabled children it is essential to help them reach their full potential. Challengers provides numerous play schemes for disabled children from across the South East. However, there are hundreds of children missing out every day and your gift can help them play.
