Story
Age UK Cheshire is a local social enterprise and charity that is dedicated to supporting people in later life in the local area. Amongst their many services they provide invaluable support for people with Dementia.
At their Dementia Centre, Age UK Cheshire provide a wide range of activities for those attending the "Bright Memories Club", as well as providing all important respite for carers. They believe that memory loss shouldn’t be a barrier to fun, friendship and stimulation for the mind and are passionate about creating a safe, caring and welcoming environment for their members. Quality of life is no less important to people regardless of their condition, circumstance or age. Everyone needs to feel they are progressing and contributing, no matter their situation.
As a local charity focusing on the needs of older people, Age UK Cheshire have many years experience of providing interesting, stimulating and appropriate activities for people living with the early stages of dementia. This service uses that experience, using a combination of paid staff and volunteers, to ensure those they are supporting, and their carers, receive a meaningful and excellent level of service in what can be a confusing and emotionally challenging time.
In recent times my Grandad and Grandma have been able to lean on the Dementia services that Age UK Cheshire provide. The local support is invaluable to them both. My Grandma has spoken of the many people who attend and who she has met, who have desperate stories, but also talk of the benefit the club provides to enable them all to keep moving positively forward each week. Equally my Grandad is benefiting massively from the interaction and challenge of the supported, relaxed social environment.
But all of this incredible resource does cost money.
So I'm raising funds by running the Delamere Half Marathon on 5th November for Age UK Cheshire. In this way I'm indirectly supporting my Grandparents as well as others like them in my local area!
If you can support me that would be wonderfully appreciated.
