Story
I am taking on the Race to the South Pole Virtual Challenge in support of Petals the baby loss counselling charity. They provide a specialist counselling service for women, men and couples who have suffered the devastating loss of a pregnancy or death of a baby.
It is a sad reality that in the UK, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, 1 in 200 babies will be stillborn every year, over 5000 pregnancies will be terminated for medical reasons each year and 24 babies die shortly after birth every single week.
Some people might know that we lost our baby boy Sam this past year. At our 20 week scan we were told that Sam had a severe form of Spina Bifida. We were given the impossible choice to carry on with the pregnancy knowing he was going to be very poorly, or to have a termination for medical reasons. The aftermath of this diagnosis has truly been the worst of our lives. Unfortunately many other parents go through what we have gone through, and so we want to do something useful to help others in our position, and help us remember our deeply loved Sam.
Since Petals began its incredible work, thousands of couples have been supported by their counsellors and in the last 12 months alone they have delivered over 5,500 counselling sessions.
By supporting this challenge, you will be helping Petals to deliver more vital counselling sessions to bereaved parents when they need it the most.
