Story
I’m going to be taking on the challenge of running the Manchester Marathon in memory of my incredible dad Dave, who we lost in April 2021.
He was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2009 when he was only in his 50’s, which devastated our family. My dad was an incredible person - the life and soul of everything he did, he was loving, funny, the best dancer on any dance floor and so full of life - unfortunately he was taken from us way too soon and we miss him everyday.
He didn’t let the dementia stop him though - he kept travelling, went to City every week and he even ran the Manchester Marathon before he got too ill.
One of the hardest thing about losing someone is not being able to make new memories with them so I’ll be running the Manchester Marathon too, in memory of him, knowing he’ll be by my side and hopefully I can help the Alzheimer’s Society continue to work towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives like ours.
Massive thank you for any support you can give : )
“Dementia is the UKs biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes, and currently there is no cure. We know it is scary facing up to it, but we must confront the biggest health & social care challenge of our time. After Covid-19, dementia was the leading cause of death in the UK in 2020. We owe it to the 900,000 people across the country currently living with dementia, and their families, to spearhead a campaign for change, whilst providing vital day-to-day support now. By taking part and raising sponsorship, or donating to someone who is, you are helping us do this. Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to Alzheimer's Society. It's the most efficient way to fundraise, saving time and cutting costs for charities”.
