Story
Since I'm going to be insufferable and talk about running to anyone willing to listen - let me do so for a good cause! It would mean the world if you would help support Free to Run and their mission to empower women and girls to run.
On the 29th of September 2024, I'm running my second marathon of 2024 together with dear friends. This time around, my goal is to race in under 4 hours, after crossing the finish line at a frustrating 04:00:26 in Copenhagen last May.
It is an incredible freedom and priviledge to be able to dedicate time and energy to such arbitrary goals.
I started racing in earnest in 2021 as a way to cope with the restrictions during the Covid-19 lockdowns. But for a long time, running has brought me play, structure, community, a fun opportunity to see what my body can do, and a beautiful sense of freedom.
So it hit extra hard when, duringg training this summer, I read about the murder of Ugandan olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei and of female athletes who are harassed or made refugees.
There are far too many women and girls around the world for whom running (and sports more generally) is not accessible or simply dangerous.
Free to Run does an incredible job helping to empower women to run. Through conscientiously run sports programs, leadership development, and community outreach, they helps young women to reclaim public space and change views about the roles they can (and should) play in a society.
I have followed this organisation and its inspiring team and athletes for a while now, and I am very proud to finally be a Free to Run ambassador and support their work!
If you can, please donate to their incredible course and give us all something to run for on Sunday!!!
Big hugs
Sofie (and Louis, Margherita, and Karen-Marie)
