Story

Hi everyone and thank you for visiting our Just Giving page.

We are fundraising for St. Cuthbert's Hospice by doing a skydive to thank them for the exceptional care they gave to my Mam and Matt's Nan, Anne, during her final days.

Mam was diagnosed with stage four Oesophageal cancer in January 2022 which then sadly spread to her liver and stomach and was told that she had weeks to live. She underwent Chemo and fought hard to battle this horrible disease. We had two years with her that we didn't think we would get. In December 2023 she was told that there was nothing more that could be done. As was her nature, she didn't let this get her down. She enjoyed a lovely Christmas with those she cherished most - her husband, her son and her two grandsons - and Ella (the dog). Sadly, she took a turn for the worse just after New Year's Day.

Mam spent just over two weeks at St. Cuthbert's and we couldn't have wished for better care. My dad said on several occasions that the nurses, and all the staff, were Angels - and it's true. It takes a special kind of person and a special kind of place to provide end of life care for someone. And, in St. Cuthbert's case, it also takes generosity from people like you, because they make no charge for their services.

We have set our fundraising goal at £2000 because that's what it costs for one day of care at the hospice. Mam was there for just over two weeks, so we would love to smash this target and cover some part of the cost of her care if possible. Please give generously (and please use the “Gift Aid” option to generate more) to this very special cause which enables people with terminal illness to live out their final days with dignity, compassion and care.

We told Mam of our plans before she died, and she was so proud that Matt (who hates to fly) and I were going to do this. She has paid the fee for our Skydive, so 100% of the money raised on this page goes to St. Cuthbert's. She also wanted to be the first to donate, so she has pledged £200...generous to the end
