Story

Thanks for taking time to visit our fundraising page.

On 31st May 2025 we are taking on an incredible challenge of walking to the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), and once again we are asking our wonderful friends and family to dig deep and support us with our fundraising! It is our toughest challenge of all the walks we have done as we like to go the extra mile for a good cause (and this time it's upwards 😀)! As you know, Tony (Bungy for the Navy and football mates) was diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer in 2020, just before his 60th birthday. Advanced meaning it has already spread to his bones and it is now incurable, they can only manage it for as long as they can. The treatment has gone incredibly well so far - he was initially given 5 years so it is amazing that he is still on his primary treatment programme as we near that 5 year anniversary. Although we can't be sure, we recognise that it is likely that the cryotherapy procedure and lymphadenectomy he had as part of a research trial 6 months after he was diagnosed has played a big part in this. The surgery and managing his recovery in the middle of the covid lockdown was tough, but we are incredibly grateful that he had this opportunity. For this reason it means a lot to us to raise money for Prostate Cancer Research, both in recognition of this and to help fund further research into this cruel disease and other treatment options, both for Tony and other men like him. Prostate Cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in England, so research into more treatment options is vital.

Snowdonia for Science was founded in 2006 by the inspiring Matt Rannamets who had prostate cancer. He wanted to bring like-minded people together to raise funds and take on a unique challenge. Prostate cancer sadly took Matt’s life but his legacy lives on with this inspiring event, and we can't wait to take part.

Taking less frequently walked paths on this famous mountain to the summit of Snowdon, all the while knowing that each step we take is a step towards raising vital funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer Research.

Please donate towards our challenge today and together, we can take on Snowdon and transform the lives of people with prostate cancer. All in our mission to see a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.
