Story
In May 2024, I will be doing a charity skydive raising money for Macmillan in memory of my dad, Stewart. My dad was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer in December 2017 and sadly lost his battle in September 2018.
As many of you may know, my dad loved to skydive. If he wasn’t in the sky, he was checking the weather to see when he could next go up. He started skydiving in 2010, competing in national competitions, and then went on to gain his camera skills and FS Coach qualification. He desperately wanted to compete in the 2018 Wingsuiting Nationals however, his illness and treatment did not allow it. Less than three months before he passed, he took to the skies one last time to complete his 723rd jump. I knew that at some point in my life, I wanted to do a skydive – I had only hoped we could’ve done it together. Instead, life had different plans and I intend to do it in his memory. He was an incredible father to me and my sisters and definitely made an impact on everyone he met.
Macmillan Cancer Support is one of Britain’s largest charities that aims to do as much as it can to allow people living with cancer to live life to the fullest. On average, 1,100 people are diagnosed with cancer every day with 460 of these cases ending in death. Macmillan can help with medical, practical, emotional, and financial support. They raise money to fund the essential services required to treat and assist those who are impacted by cancer, and they give support networks to those who are affected by and living with the disease. I selected Macmillan because I want to help them make a difference in at least one person's life. They helped my dad live to the fullest for as long as he could, and I intend to make that happen for another individual struggling the same way.
Thank you for your support!
