Story
My mum has Alzheimer’s dementia and lives in a care home, where I see first hand the struggles she and so many other residents face. Dementia can be incredibly isolating, but it’s not just those with dementia who need help, many residents feel a deep loneliness and longing for connection. I’ve witnessed how a simple visit or a friendly smile can light up their day. The work that Embracing Age does is truly transformative, bringing vital companionship and comfort to residents like my mum and countless others, reminding them that they’re valued, seen, and cherished. It’s about lifting spirits, easing loneliness, and restoring dignity to those who are too often forgotten.
But there is hope! Embracing Age mobilises volunteers to bring regular joy and companionship to residents - as trained befrienders, sending monthly handmade cards and other initiatives to show the resident that "I am not alone".
By donating to my challenge, you'll enable more residents to enjoy regular companionship and know they are not forgotten. Just £10 could fund the vetting required to place a new volunteer befriender with a resident.
Together, we will help more older care home residents feel valued, connected and full of hope.
Thank you so much for your support!
