Story

1.

Towards the end of the year I try to raise money to help those struggling to get by, maybe even get some joy as winter slides in, as the festive season kicks in. It's a time of year when people think of giving... and I try to get people to give a little something for people they might not usually think of.

I suggest two things:

1. Give food and supplies at a local food bank which can then be passed on to people who need them. You can do this in a lot of supermarkets these days. Even a little every time you shop is worth something.

2. Give money directly to a food bank or charity that helps. I usually suggest Trussell. Your call if you do this, it's all cool.

2.

I've had a very injury hit year so my usual regular running has been hit.

But a couple of months ago I felt fit enough to run 100 miles / 161 kilometres in September for Cancer Research UK, raising £1,135.24 (+ £271.31 Gift Aid).

3.

This year over November and December I am trying to close out running 621.3 miles / 1000 kilometres across 2024.

This means across those two months I need to run 166.5 miles / 268 kilometres over those two months. This also means I'd need to run an average of 19.2 miles / 31 kilometres every week.

4.

I want to do something a little different at the end of the year.

It's Saturday 9th November as I type this. I've already done 21.2 miles / 34 kilometres. Hitting 166.5 miles / 268 kilometres is a stretch, but feels doable.

So to push me to my 1000km target I want to do a little awareness raising and a small fundraiser. An incredibly modest target here (£250), but if people do other micro actions (like give at a food bank), job done.

5.

Target: Between Sunday 10 November and 31 December 2024 I will aim to run 166.5 miles / 268 kilometres.

I will record all my runs on Strava and will track them using an online spreadsheet (which I am happy for you to view).

If supporting me running is the easiest way for you to give, feel free. It'll spur me on. All the money here goes directly to Trussell who do a lot of good work.

If you decide to help in other ways, awesome too.

6.

Thanks if you take action having read this, whatever that action is. It all counts.
