Simon's resumed Freedom Ride for Anti Slavery International

Simon John is raising money for Anti Slavery International

Cycling to Lourdes, Pyrenees, France · 27 June 2025

All people, everywhere should live free from slavery. Yet 50 million people – one in every 150 – is a victim of modern-day slavery. Anti-Slavery International exists to bring freedom from slavery, for everyone, everywhere. We can’t make that happen without you.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Two years ago I began riding some 1,400 kilometres from Walsingham to Lourdes, (in the French Pyrenees) to help Anti-Slavery International's work to end slavery. Every human deserves to live a life free from the worst forms of exploitation.

I had cycled nearly 500 miles when I was hit by a bus and ended up in hospital in Blois with a double pulmonary embolism. A knee replacement last summer prevented me from resuming the ride then, but I hope I’m fit enough now to have another go.

So I’m starting again, this time from that hospital in Blois and hoping to complete the remaining 400 miles or so. This time I’m being ably supported by John Desira in a campervan.

In the last few years, the number of our fellow humans who are enslaved by others has risen by a shocking 25% to nearly 50 Million people. That's 1 in every 150 people. One quarter of these souls are children and over 2/3 are women and girls, over 100,000 in the UK.

I strive for people's freedom and restoration.

It isn’t easy to stop exploitation and secure freedom for a person enduring modern slavery, but Anti-Slavery International do just that. Throughout their long history they’ve built the expertise, partnerships and knowledge needed to help prevent slavery in its many forms – including child slavery, forced labour and human trafficking.

Please consider donating to this worthy cause and become a modern abolitionist bringing people into freedom. You can truly set the downtrodden free.

You can follow me on the ride with short messages most days here..
