Story
Wentworth Woodhouse is one of the largest historic buildings in UK. It has faced many challenges over the centuries, but none as pressing as those it confronts today. Time and the elements have left their mark on this beloved landmark, and it is now our collective responsibility to ensure that it stands strong for future generations. Maintenance and day to day running heritage sites like Wentworth Woodhouse are a constant challenge requiring grants and fundraising to keep the property safe, secure and preserve it for future generations.
To this end, we are organizing a series of events to raise the vital funds needed for the restoration and preservation of this historic treasure. These events, under the banner of "Big House Heroes," aim to bring together individuals and organizations who share a passion for heritage, culture, and community.
Together with friends and colleagues I am taking part in the 3 Peaks challenge, walking the 24-mile (38.6km) round trip route, that includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent via the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres).
This is a big challenge for me, as walking has always been difficult since an operation on my knee to repair a torn meniscus. However, I have been training with the team over long weekend walks in the Peaks to build up the strength and stamina required.
