Alder Hey Dragon Boat Festival 2024

Alder Hey Dragon Boat Festival 2024 · 18 May 2024 ·
You may be lucky enough to never have the need to visit a children's hospital with your child. Or if you do need to take your child to hospital you may be lucky enough to live in proximity of Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.
We are Lucky enough to have Alder Hey take care of our daughter Liv since the day she was born. By now most of you know Liv's story so I will keep it brief this year.
In 2018 Kate was pregnant with twins. On the 20 week scan it was identified that one of the babies had an extremely low heart rate, which was later confirmed as congenital heart block. Kate and the babies were monitored every other day throughout the rest of the pregnancy and there was a great deal of concern for the babies. When the babies were born, Liv was immediately taken to Alder Hey where she stayed for the first month of her life. When she was able to gain weight at 2 weeks old she went for heart surgery was fitted with a specialist micro pacemaker. 2 weeks after she came home to join her twin sister Ruby and big bro Teddy. 18 months later she had further surgery to replace the device, she visits Alder Hey every 6 months to monitor her heart and the pace maker. This used to be a very stressful visit, but thanks to the amazing play therapy team Liv now looks forward to her visits to her special hospital.
We will forever be grateful to Alder Hey for what they have done for our family.
We are back after winning the Dragon Boat race 3 years running to defend our title but most importantly raise money for this amazing hospital.
