Story
Skinflint Rally takes place in September with cars costing no more than £500 taking on a pan-European challenge. Simon, Martin and Luke are driving a Barbie-pink PT Cruiser from Rugby to Barcelona to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities UK. We are doing this to say thank you for the support their daughter/sister Laura and her husband Dave have received during their daughter, Mollie’s treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
OUR STORY
Our amazing grand-daughter/niece Mollie was born with Crouzon Syndrome in September 2015. Crouzon syndrome is a rare genetic condition in which the seams of the skull fuse prematurely and prevent the head from growing as it should. Amongst other symptoms, Crouzon Syndrome can cause hearing loss, dental problems and breathing difficulties.
From birth, Mollie has been a patient on Ward 10 at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. When she was just five months old, she underwent a Cranio-Vault reconstruction, and she has gone on to have numerous operations including the fitting of a bone anchored hearing aid.
We are all extremely proud of Mollie, who has remained incredibly resilient. Along with her older sister Skye and twin brothers Oscar and Jaxon, she lives life to the full and is now a wonderfully inquisitive eight-year-old.
During Mollie’s numerous stays in hospital, her mum and dad have been supported by Ronald McDonald House who provide free, comfortable, safe accommodation for the families of sick children in hospital. We cannot thank the team at Ronald McDonald House Charities enough for all that they do. As a thank you we are trying to raise £5000 to sponsor a bedroom at the Birmingham House for a year.
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK have 14 Houses across the UK which offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child's bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.
