Story
This September Simon Beckett, Chris Ireland and Martin Le Grice will be joining a group of cyclists led by Matt Downie, the Chief Executive of Crisis, to cycle almost 500 miles from London to Edinburgh and raise money for the development of two new Crisis Skylight centres.
Over 300,000 people in England are without a home, including almost 140,000 children, an increase of nearly 40,000 over 2023. That’s over 1 in every 200 people and in London it is around 1 in 50, which is staggering and unacceptable. In any one night over 3,000 people sleep on the streets.
The cost of living crisis and critical shortage of housing has resulted in a surge in homelessness which rose by 14% in the year to December 2023 in the UK. In 2023 six London Boroughs had a homelessness rate of 1 in 40 or worse.
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. They help people out of homelessness and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.
Your donation will help to fund Crisis' response to the increase in homelessness and their work that includes helping people find a home, settle in, acquire new skills, find a job, and improve their health and wellbeing. By understanding the immediate pressures of homelessness, as well as the wider societal pressures that push people into homelessness in the first place, we can solve homelessness for good in Great Britain.
The three of us would be very grateful for your support.
