Story
Lorega are raising money for my lovely friend Nicky by organising a charity book shop in the office. Friends and colleagues have kindly donated books - all of us trying in some small way to support Nicky and help to fund Support, Awareness and Research into Motor Neurone Disease. Nicky is both brave and positive and I am so proud of her commitment to raising awareness about MND and to helping others with the disease.
In her own words this is her story.
My name is Nicky and I’m a 58 year-old artist, living in London. Beyond family and friends my great loves are walking, painting, Cornwall and my cairn terrier, Betsy. Nothing too remarkable about me. Then in May 2023 I was diagnosed with MND, a rare but devastating disease affecting only up to 5000 people in the UK out of a population of 67 million. That’s a one in 13,400 chance which makes me special in a way I would give anything not to be.
Due to its rarity MND is relatively low profile and thus underfunded. Currently there is no cure, but exciting research is happening within specialist units in certain hospitals including Kings College Hospital where I hope to be treated.
All donations however small will make a difference in the fight to find a cure.
