Story
Hi everyone! We are Santosh's granddaughters and we are proudly taking part in this year's Memory Walk 2024 for our beloved Nani/Daadima who has bravely faced Alzheimer's disease since her diagnosis on October 24th 2012. Nani's journey has taught us invaluable lessons about the illness, our resilience as her carers and the challenges of Alzheimer's disease.
Despite her struggles, Santosh's spirit shines to this day through her longtime love of music, religious hymns, her family and of course... sweet treats. We believe in a future where no one has to endure this journey alone, which is why we stand with Alzheimer's Society in their mission to find a cure and until then, the next best thing.
Santosh came to the UK from Amritsar, India in 1968 with her late husband and anyone who knew her from day one to today, knows how loving, sweet and cheeky she can be. We have watched her long and sometimes windy journey with Alzheimer's and understand deeply the emotional, physical and mental toll it can take on those diagnosed, as well as their loved ones. We hope and pray that one day a cure will be widely available to all who need it and will continue to donate and raise awareness alongside organisations like Alzheimer's Society.
As family we have learnt so much about this disease in particular through caring for Santosh since 2014 and like many carers we are grateful to know what we know but wish our loved ones did not have to live like this. This is why Alzheimer's society is one of the most important key players out there in the fight against Alzheimer's and other dementia related illnesses. The organisation works above and beyond to research cures, offer learning and training as well as providing support for patients and their carers.
Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and currently there is no cure. We know it is scary but we must confront the biggest health & social care challenge of our time. We owe it to the 900,000 people across the UK currently living with dementia to campaign for change, whilst providing vital day-to-day support. By taking part and raising money, or donating to someone who is, you are helping to do this. So, who will you walk for? #MemoryWalk
Any donation amount is tremendously appreciated and we thank you for it.
Thank you!
