Story

Mick was full of life and lived for the thrill of adventure. He pushed himself to the limits be it climbing without ropes, jumping out of a plane, racing minimotos and motorbikes, cycling, triathlons or running.

Up until recently he went to the gym every day and was ready to help anyone else to also reach their goals. However what people didn’t see is that Mick was a functioning alcoholic for many years and over the past two years it became more of a struggle. This was ultimately the catalyst for his death on 29th July 2024.

It is my strong belief that had Mick sought support years ago the outcome may have been different. So to help and raise awareness of the harm caused by alcohol misuse I am asking for sponsorship/donations to have my long hair cut off. I have never had really short hair before so this is a huge thing for me to do.

The UNHM Alcohol liaison team can help people in a variety of ways, one of which is asking people to complete a short screening tool which helps them to see how many units of alcohol they are actually consuming and offer/direct them towards the appropriate support if needed.

So raising much needed funds for the alcohol team will help them to undertake some promotional events raising awareness of alcohol use and the impact misuse can have for the individual and or the families.

It is surprising how many units are in a bottle of wine or a simple double spirit. If the promotion events can help at least one person to get the support they need or make a change that could ultimately save their lives then it’s a small sacrifice to make.

I will also donate my hair to charity for wig making. The more I raise the more I will have cut off. In total it could mean chopping off at least 10-15 inches 💇‍♀️.
