Story
Fun loving adventurer, Shiona Ramage was 45 years old when she was first diagnosed with melanoma in June 2016. In March 2017 the melanoma advanced to her brain and progressed to stage 4 for which there is no cure. Fortunately in the last 5 years new immunotherapy and targeted treatments have helped to extend the lives of patients like Shiona. However immunotherapy only works for 50% of patients and melanoma often develops resistance to the targeted treatments and too many patients are still dying of the disease.
Shiona has been fortunate to be treated by the wonderful Professor James Larkin and the team at the Royal Marsden. She is currently taking targeted treatment Debrafenib and Trametinib which is currently controlling her melanoma. She writes a blog to raise awareness of living with stage 4 melanoma and you can read her story at www.shomelanoma.com
On Sept 7/8 we will be taking on the South Coast 100km Ultra Challenge starting from Eastbourne along the steep coastal path of the South Downs Way and finishing in Arundel. The 2024 team includes :
Shiona, Dave, Tony, Phil, Tasha, Will, Liz, Johnny, Jim and Al who are taking on 100km
Jo and Paula will be taking on 50km
We are fundraising for melanoma research at the Royal Marsden. All funds raised from the challenge will go 100% towards the melanoma research fund at the Royal Marsden to help them continue to develop life saving research and discover new innovative cancer treatments to extend the lives of more cancer patients. The care Shiona receives is exceptional and she wants to give back to the hospital she owes so much and make a difference to help extend the lives of other cancer patients.
Thank you for all of your support
